一、Optimized Batten/Purlin System
The structural foundation and ventilation pathway for a color-coated stone chip tile roof are provided by the batten or purlin system, a critical component specifically optimized for this roofing type. Battens are typically long, straight lengths of treated timber (usually 1"x2" or 1"x3") or corrosion-resistant metal (steel or aluminum). They are installed horizontally, parallel to the eaves, directly onto the roof deck over the underlayment, spaced according to the tile specifications and local wind/snow load requirements (commonly 12-18 inches on center vertically). This system serves multiple essential functions: Structural Support: Battens provide a solid, elevated nailing base for the tiles, ensuring secure fastening into the roof deck. Ventilation: The gaps between battens create continuous channels for airflow from eave vents to ridge vents beneath the tiles, crucial for moisture management and thermal regulation. Alignment: Battens act as guides, ensuring each course of tiles is installed straight and level. Drainage: They elevate the tiles slightly, allowing any incidental water that gets past the interlocks to drain down the slope over the underlayment.
