Surface textures are engineered via embossing rolls that impart 3D patterns onto wet paint films before curing. Rolls are laser-etched with precision geometries: linen (Ra 2.5-4.0µm), leather (Ra 5-8µm), or orange peel (Ra 1.5-2.5µm). Pressure-controlled nip rollers (10-50 kN/m) transfer patterns while maintaining DFT within ±0.3µm. For directional grains, differential engraving depths create shadow effects. In-mold embossing applies textures during coil coating, unlike post-applied films, ensuring permanent bonding without delamination risks. Texture depth is measured inline by laser triangulation sensors with 0.1µm resolution.

Functional benefits extend beyond aesthetics. Embossed surfaces hide substrate imperfections (e.g., stretcher strains) and minimize visible scratches. Leather grains increase slip resistance to R10-R13 (DIN 51130), suitable for flooring applications. Micro-roughness reduces light reflection from 85° to 40-60°, mitigating visual glare on building facades. Critically, textures enhance formability: T-bend tests show embossed films withstand 0T bends versus 2T for smooth equivalents. Texture also influences cleanability – Ra>3µm surfaces retain 30% less dirt in ISO 3231 pollution tests. The technology enables woodgrain replication with <0.5mm pattern registration accuracy for furniture applications.
