While all materials expand and contract with temperature changes, color-coated stone chip tiles are engineered to minimize the negative effects of this movement, ensuring long-term performance and aesthetic integrity. The steel core does experience thermal expansion and contraction, but the system incorporates several design features to accommodate it gracefully. Firstly, the precision-engineered interlocking profiles often include specific allowances or "play" at the connection points. Secondly, fasteners (screws or nails) are typically installed through elongated or slotted holes in the tile's nailing flange, allowing the tile to slide slightly relative to the batten or deck as it expands and contracts. Thirdly, the use of concealed clips, rather than relying solely on direct fastening through the tile face, provides a secure yet flexible attachment point that permits movement. Crucially, the premium acrylic resin binder is specifically formulated for high elasticity, allowing it to flex with the metal substrate without cracking or losing adhesion to the stone granules.
