Mechanical Property Optimization
Pre-painted coils are engineered for specific mechanical properties via cold reduction (30-80%) and annealing (recrystallization at 710-820°C). Steel grades range from:

  • Commercial Steel (CS): Yield strength 180-300MPa, elongation 22-36%

  • Structural Steel (SS): YS 280-500MPa, elongation 14-20%

  • High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA): YS 340-550MPa with microalloying (Nb,V,Ti)

Tensile testing (ASTM A370) confirms property consistency within ±10MPa. Bake-hardenable grades (e.g., HCT600X) gain 40-60MPa YS during paint curing. Critical forming parameters include:

  • n-value (strain hardening): 0.18-0.24 for deep drawing

  • r-value (anisotropy): 1.4-2.2 for earring control

  • Planar anisotropy (Δr): <0.4 for uniform deformation

Finite element analysis (FEA) simulates forming limits: HSLA grades achieve 20% stretch flangeability (λ-value) versus 12% for CS. Coating adhesion remains >9MPa after 10% straining (ISO 16805). This optimization enables complex geometries like refrigerator cabinets formed from single pre-painted blanks.
