Resistance to Hail Damage
As previously noted for impact resistance (Keyword 6), color-coated stone chip tiles achieve Class 4 (the highest) rating per UL 2218, signifying exceptional resistance to hail damage. This performance is worth reiterating specifically for hail due to its destructive potential. The defense is multi-layered: the High-Density Steel Core provides a rigid backing that resists denting; the Dense Layer of Hard Stone Granules (Mohs hardness 6-7, far harder than ice) acts as the primary impact shield, fracturing hailstones and distributing the force; and the Resilient Acrylic Resin Binder absorbs shock and flexes slightly without cracking, maintaining granule adhesion even after impact. The combination ensures that hailstones, even large ones (up to 2 inches in diameter for Class 4), are shattered and their energy dissipated before causing functional damage to the waterproofing layers or significant cosmetic damage.
